Who is AIPRO?

AIPRO was founded with a simple set of ideals. We foster innovation, promote competition and offer superior passenger experience to the rail industry within the United States. We believe the rail industry works best when the world’s leading operators compete for each service.

FAQs

Is AIPRO Anti-Amtrak?

No. Amtrak has a pivotal role in playing within our national passenger rail system and introducing competition to state-supported routes that Amtrak currently runs. We believe that opening these routes to the competition will make Amtrak a better company and provide better and more efficient service at a better price.

When was AIPRO founded?

The Association for Innovative Passenger Rail Operations was founded in 2010 and reformed in 2021 after the COVID-19 Pandemic to help shape the future of passenger rail within the United States to ensure that Amtrak and private operators all benefit from an increase in funding for state-supported routes.

What are AIPRO’s goals?

The goal of AIPRO is to see the advancement of competition in passenger rail and have open bidding for routes between Amtrak and any number of outside entities. This allows states to select the best operations with their own money.

Is new legislation needed to make this happen?

All the legislation that will be needed in order to see competition is already in place. The only change needed would be for legislation to specifically set the money already going to states to be awarded in an open bid as opposed to Amtrak automatically getting the money to use as it sees fit.
